International Decade for People of African Descent
In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared January 2015 to December 2024 as the International Decade for People of African Descent.
Since endorsing the UN Decade, our Liberal government has made historic investments and delivered programs for Black-led organizations and Black communities to reach critical milestones, including:
More than 40 people, places, and events of national historic significance related to the history of Black people in Canada formally recognized.
The Black Entrepreneurship Program which has helped almost 9000 Black entrepreneurs get mentorship, business training and financial planning advice so they can grow their businesses.
Created the Mental Health of Black Canadians Fund, to help address the physical and mental legacies of racism Black communities have faced within the country.
