One million Canadians have accessed dental care with CDCP

Over ONE MILLION Canadians have accessed care through the Canadian Dental Care Plan!

Health Minister Mark Holland shared the good news in Scarborough Centre, where many local residents are improving their oral health and saving money thanks to this program.

He also announced that beginning November 1, the basket of services will expand. #CDCP patients requiring more complex services that need preauthorization will now have access to these services.

Today, more than 22,340 providers are delivering care under the plan, representing 89% of active dental providers in Canada.

Managing Canada’s immigration levels

Immigration is vital to growing our economy and sustaining the benefits Canadians rely on. But we also need to carefully manage immigration levels to ensure we have the housing and other resources for them to successfully integrate in Canada.

In the new immigration levels plan we’re reducing the number of temporary and permanent residents in the short term to alleviate pressures on housing and infrastructure.

These measures will achieve long-term growth and ensure a well-managed, sustainable immigration system where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.

I asked Minister Marc Miller about the plan during question period.

Happy Thanksgiving!

On behalf on my family and I, I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you were able to take this opportunity to slow down, gather with your friends and loved ones, and enjoy your favourite foods and other traditions. This is a time to give thanks. For the blessings in our lives and for those around us. Let’s also remember those less fortunate that are unable to enjoy the same blessings we do. I also want to thank Skyway Christian Assembly for hosting this year’s Multifaith Thanksgiving Dinner. It’s always wonderful to break bread together.

Our commemoration of Islamic History Month was a celebration of our rich Islamic heritage, as well as a reflection on what it means to be Muslim and Canadian. Once again I’m awed by the wealth of talent and desire to contribute in our Scarborough community. Thank you all very much for coming!

Let’s get reading, Scarborough!

Congratulations to The Reading Partnership for hosting their Next Chapter festival in Scarborough for the first time and what better location than Scarborough Town Centre. It was truly moving to see the creativity of underprivileged kids being given a platform. Thank you for all that you do!

Save the Science Centre

What a great community turnout at the Save the Science Centre rally! People are not accepting Doug Ford’s politically motivated decision to shutter this important institution in Don Valley East.

Bank of Canada cuts interest rates again

In October, the Bank of Canada lowered interest rates a fourth straight time, to 3.75 per cent.

Our responsible plan has created the economic conditions for interest rates to come down. We’re on the right path; our plan is working.

We’re building on Canada’s strong economic and fiscal position to make the investments Canadians need – in housing, in affordability, in economic growth – so that every generation has a fair chance at success.

Inflation continues to drop

Inflation has fallen from its high of 8.1 per cent in June 2022 to 1.6 per cent in September 2024. And for all of 2024, inflation has been within the Bank of Canada’s 1 per cent to 3 per cent target range. This is good news.

Despite inflation now stable at its normal levels, there’s more work to be done. We have a plan to plan to grow the economy, support Canadians, and deliver fairness for every generation.

Check your accounts for the Canada Carbon Rebate

On October 15th eligible Ontarians the Canada Carbon Rebate by cheque or direct deposit, because putting a price on pollution is the best way to make big polluters pay while making life more affordable for eight out of ten households.

Unlike the Conservatives who want to make pollution free again and ax your rebate, we are investing to build a sustainable future for our kids and grandchildren while making sure you are better off.

More savings for small businesses

Great news for Canadian small businesses! We are lowering your costs, putting money in your pocket, and boosting your bottom line. Lower credit card fees (Visa and Mastercard) coming into effect on Oct 19, and $2.5 billion in carbon rebates coming directly into your bank accounts by the end of this year!  #smallbusinessmonth

Investing in pharmacare

We’re investing in healthcare and our Pharmacare legislation is a giant step forward in delivering better healthcare to Canadians.

It lays out our plan for universal, single-payer coverage for a whole range of contraception and diabetes medications, and will help more than three and a half million Canadians living with diabetes get the medication and resources they need.

Through our bilateral health agreements with provinces and territories, the Canadian Dental Care Plan and Pharmacare, we’re delivering on the promise that every Canadian deserves better healthcare.

Launching the Canada Water Agency

Canada’s freshwater resources are critical to our health, our economy, and our environment. Our water is a finite natural resource and requires protection and stewardship through coordinated action across government.

That’s why we’ve established the Canada Water Agency as a standalone federal entity to strengthen freshwater management in Canada by providing leadership, and improved coordination and collaboration federally and with provinces, territories, and Indigenous peoples to address transboundary freshwater challenges and opportunities.
