Happy Thanksgiving!
On behalf on my family and I, I would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you are able to take this opportunity to slow down, gather with your friends and loved ones, and enjoy your favourite foods and other traditions. This is a time to give thanks. For the blessings in our lives and for those around us. Let’s also remember those less fortunate that are unable to enjoy the same blessings we do. Once again, Happy Thanksgiving, and all the best for the Fall season!

Raising Scarborough’s voice in the House of Commons
In the House of Commons I spoke about what residents told me this summer in Scarborough.
They're concerned about affordability, about the cost of groceries and rent. They're glad inflation and interest rates are coming down, but they still need more help to make ends meet.
They also told me they're worried the Conservatives will ax programs they rely on like the Canada Child Benefit, National Daycare, and the new National Dental Plan.
As we return to Parliament, I'll be fighting to make like more affordable for people in Scarborough and across Canada -- and against Conservative cuts that will hurt working people.

Speaking out against racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia
A post by a Conservative MP mocking me for speaking up for Scarborough attracted a torrent of racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic abuse. When I raised concerns about this in committee, another Conservative MP tried to shut me down.
I will never apologize for standing up for Scarborough, and I will not let anyone stop me from speaking out against racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia or any form of hatred and discrimination.

Marking Indigenous Reconciliation Day in Scarborough
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. The Orange Shirt is a symbol of perseverance and Indigenous resistance against colonialism.
It’s a reminder of our collective responsibility to forge a renewed Nation-to-Nation, Government-to-Government, and Inuit-Crown partnership with Indigenous Peoples, anchored in dignity and mutual respect.

Seniors services fair a success
We absolutely enjoyed spending our Friday with Scarborough Centre’s seniors. We hope you had a great time learning about your benefits and resolving some issues. A big shoutout to our partners at Service Canada and CRA for delivering individual case management and for the incredibly useful information session today. We’ll do this again soon!

Bank of Canada lowers interest rates
The Bank of Canada’s decision to lower interest rates is welcome news for Canadians. Our responsible plan to create the economic conditions for interest rates to come down is working. We’re on the right path.
Canada was the first G7 country to cut interest rates, and the first G7 country to do so a third time. This is good news for homeowners who currently have mortgages that need to be renewed, and for first-time home buyers. And it’s good for businesses of all sizes too!
As the Bank continues its independent work to keep inflation within target, our government is doing our part, just as we outlined in this year’s budget, by sticking to our responsible fiscal targets.

Inflation still trending downwards
Good news.
Canada’s annual inflation rate fell to 2 per cent in August, which is the lowest rate since February 2021, and marks the eighth consecutive month that inflation has been within the Bank of Canada’s target range.
Our economic plan is working and we need to keep working hard to make like more affordable for Canadians.

Everyone deserves an affordable home
We're making it easier for Canadians to by a home with the boldest mortgage reforms in decades to unlock home ownership for more Canadians.
We're taking action by:
➡️ Expanding eligibility for 30-year insured mortgages to all first-time homebuyers and to all buyers of new builds
➡️ Increasing the price cap for insured mortgages from $1 million to $1.5 million
➡️Allowing all insured mortgage holders to switch lenders at renewal without having to do another mortgage stress test
➡️ Releasing blueprints for the Renters’ Bill of Rights and Home Buyers’ Bill of Rights
Our Liberal government is using every possible tool to help more Canadians become homeowners.
