Update on health diagnosis
July 26, 2018
SCARBOROUGH – I am pleased to report that my treatment for non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma has been successfully completed, and I look forward to an active summer connecting with constituents and to returning to my duties in the House of Commons this Fall.
On Friday, I met with my oncologist who told me my scans show I am now cancer free. I would like to thank Dr. Neil Berinstein and all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Odette-Sunnybrook Cancer Centre in Toronto for their excellent treatment and care these last five months. We are truly blessed to have access to a world class health care system in Canada.
I would also like to thank my family, the people of Scarborough Centre, the cancer survivors who reached out with their stories and their tips, my colleagues and friends across party lines in Ottawa, and everyone who sent their prayers, their love and their support. It was truly touching, and it really did make a difference.
And thank you to my staff in Ottawa and in Scarborough for their hard work and dedication during my medical leave, ensuring the people of Scarborough Centre continued to receive the support and assistance they need.
I return to my duties more determined than ever to make the most of the opportunity to serve the people of Scarborough Centre, and to be their strong voice in Ottawa.
I also look forward to speaking to my private member’s motion (M-155), which would designate June as Filipino Heritage Month across Canada, when it comes up for debate in the House of Commons in October.
Thank you.
