CREATING 216 SUMMER JOBS IN SCARBOROUGH CENTRE

SCARBOROUGH – The riding of Scarborough Centre, represented by Member of Parliament Salma Zahid, is receiving significantly more funding this year under the Canada Summer Jobs Program, with the Federal Government funding 216 new jobs for youth aged 15-30 this summer. Over 55,000 paid hours for these new youth workers worth almost $700,000 in funding has been invested by the government, allowing 58 different employers here in Scarborough Centre to hire youth for the summer. The Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program provides funding to not-for-profit organizations, public sector employers and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees, to help create summer job opportunities for students. Aside from helping to create employment, the program also delivers important diverse community services for seniors. Students learn transferrable skills such as public speaking, time management, self-confidence and organizational skills. This program is just one part of the government’s plan to provide opportunities for Canadian youth to help build a strong Canadian middle class right here in Scarborough. “It is important that we support our youth, and help them gain the valuable skills necessary to enter the workforce,” said Scarborough Centre MP Salma Zahid. “Our government is committed to empowering Canadian youth.” A diverse group of community, charitable, faith-based and private sector are all hiring Scarborough youth, such as the Scarborough Muslim Association with eight positions, the Hindu Society of Thirupathy with four positions, and the Boys and Girls Club of West Scarborough with eight positions, along with other organizations. “We set an ambitious goal to create up to 70,000 jobs for youth across Canada, and we’ve exceeded it,” said The Honourable MaryAnn Mihychuk, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour. “More young people than ever will benefit from a job this summer through this program.” (Photos from "Big Splash" event at Dorset Park Community Hub recognizing local employers and students taking part in the program) ????????????????????????????????????  ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????
