Celebrating Scarborough businesses providing opportunities to Syrian refugees
April 27, 2016
SCARBOROUGH – Canadians have opened their arms and their hearts to refugee families fleeing the war in Syria, and today Scarborough Centre MP Salma Zahid recognized two local businesses that have stepped up to provide employment opportunities for these new members of the Canadian family. “We’re lucky to live in one of the most diverse communities in Canada, and people from around the world have chosen Scarborough as the place to live, to work, and to build a better life for their families,” says Zahid. “Syrian newcomers are looking for that same opportunity – to provide a better life for their children – and these local businesses are demonstrating real leadership by providing newcomers with employment opportunities.” The Scarborough location of grocery chain Marché Adonis has hired 54 refugees. The founders, Jamil Cheaib, Georges Ghrayeb and Elie Cheaib, are immigrants from Lebanon who, like many others, were touched by the refugee crisis and wanted to do their part to support Canada’s commitment to Syrian refugee resettlement. “Corporate social responsibility is very important to our company, and this is one way we can give back to the community that has done so much to support us,” says Sherif El Gharbawy, regional director for Ontario with Adonis Goup. “Many Syrian newcomers bring skills and experience that are important to support our growth.” “We’re lucky to live in one of the most diverse communities in Canada, and people from around the world have chosen Scarborough as the place to live, to work, and to build a better life for their families,” says Zahid. “Syrian newcomers are looking for that same opportunity – to provide a better life for their children – and these local businesses are demonstrating real leadership by providing newcomers with employment opportunities.” Landscaping company 3-D Exteriors Ltd. has hired 10 Syrian refugees, and owner David Andrews says with spring now here they’re looking to hire more. “3-D Exteriors Ltd. is in the business of beautifying Canadian lands. Our new refugee residents offer Canada no less,” says 3-D Exteriors Ltd. president David Andrews. “We are privileged to share our corporate ambitions with those who have arrived in Canada to build new and beauty-filled lives for themselves here.” ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????
